Job Title: Desktop Publishing Supervisor GENERAL DESCRIPTION OR PURPOSE OF THE JOB: This role directs and coordinates assigned Copy Prep (Desktop Publishing) departmental operations within the plant. Responsibilities include meeting objectives for quality, quantity, cost, and delivery. Incumbents control the area’s schedule, quality control, and allocation of materials, workforce, and equipment. The Desktop Publishing Supervisor sets area production and performance goals, organizes work, and maintains a productive and engaged team. The incumbent will work closely with the department manager to assist in the overall achievement of operational goals in safety, quality, cost, delivery, organization, and a positive work environment. This position will support and partner with continuous improvement and manufacturing engineers to drive process improvement and safety goals, as needed for the department. Additionally, this position may be asked to support other areas or departments as assigned by leadership. The incumbent of this role is required to be on call and/or available after hours, to provide their own mobile device, and to distribute their mobile phone number accordingly. Alternatively, individuals may distribute their office phone number if their office phone is set to forward calls to their personal device when they are not physically present. RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: + Oversee desktop publishing operations and workflow. Manage department production schedules, quality, materials, and equipment, as assigned. + Sets work and performance goals and objectives, trains and develops a diverse workforce, provides coaching and counseling when necessary, and writes employee performance reviews. + Prepares and monitors the budgetary process. Meets department objectives for quality, productivity, and cost. + Participate in and support continuous improvement initiatives. + Order and maintain inventories of materials. Monitor existing reports for accuracy and build custom reports as requested. Ensures compliance with supply chain policies, standards, and procedures. + Manage Safety for the department(s) and ensure that his/her area(s) work within the plant’s Safety procedures and work rules. Conduct operations in a manner that promotes Safety and compliance with regulatory standards. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES – In any job with supervisory responsibilities, the following are an explicit part of the incumbent’s responsibilities and essential functions: + Participate in decisions related to the selection, promotion, transfer, pay, and discipline of assigned personnel. + Clearly communicate job duties and responsibilities to enable individuals to proceed with certainty in the performance of their positions. + Monitor the work performance of assigned personnel on a continual basis; conduct effective performance reviews; take corrective action whenever necessary and, where necessary, work with HR Generalists to establish performance improvement plans. + Support the development of assigned personnel’s skills and abilities and demonstrate by personal example the desired standards of conduct (Jostens values) and work performance. + Identify and resolve skill gaps and succession issues. + Administer Company policies with regard to discipline, absenteeism, etc., in a fair and equitable manner, and fully document all incidents and actions taken. + Involve assigned HR Generalist on compliance issues such as pay equity, equal opportunity in hiring and promotions, and proper procedures for hiring, terminations, lay-offs, etc. Required: + Bachelor’s degree in Business, Manufacturing, or similar, and/or equivalent experience. + 3-5 years of experience as Supervisor. + Management/Supervisory experience in a team-based environment. + Bilingual (English/Spanish), depending on location. + Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and inspire team members. + Excellent MS Office experience, in particular Excel Skills & Microsoft Teams. + Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. + Well-developed interpersonal, communication, influencing, and presentation skills. + Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with cross-functional teams. Preferred: + Experience in Pre-Press processes and management (Desktop Publishing/Graphic Design) + Aptitude for working with applicable software (Photoshop, InDesign, Workshop, etc.) + Printing experience in a Yearbook and/or Commercial Printing environment. + Exposure and knowledge of Continuous Improvement initiatives.
